Serious Games / Learning Games
As a type of training based on a video game and a simulation, serious games have already been in the media for a few years. However, 2010 truly seems to be the year for serious games, being very well represented at the French "Solutions RH" fair.
So far only used by large companies due to major development costs, they can also be of interest for smaller business structures.
As recognized actors of the e-learning and serious games sector SBT and Symetrix play an active role in the Imaginove business cluster and participate in many projects such as LGF (Learning Games Factory), SEGAREM (SErious GAmes REalité Mixte = Serious Games Mixed Reality) and SLI (Serious Lab for Innovation).
- LGF: The purpose of the European LGF project is to provide a prototypical environment that will allow to design, produce, share and reuse all or part of a fun and adaptative multimedia learning system or serious game.
- SEGAREM: The purpose of this project is to provide answers as to the necessary methods, models and tools to produce innovative and interactive training devices, also known as serious games. The aim is therefore to develop a prototypical environment to design, produce, and implement mixed serious games (MSG).
- SLI: Design and development of a prototypical environment to co-create and test marketing concepts.
Finally, an R&D project entitled MISIVIAS (MIse en SItuation VIrtuelle pour l'ASsessment = "Virtual simulation exercise for assessments") was also launched in autumn 2010 and is currently underway. The aim of the project is to develop computerized tools that reproduces the simulation exercises commonly used in ARNAVA assessment centers. Thanks to the AVA engine developed by Dæsign (partner of SBT in the LGF project), these virtual simulation exercises will integrate the behavioral and cognitive dimensions of the assessment. This 18-month long program is partly financed by the French Ministry for Industry and Services.
